EFL Championship – A Brampton Showdown

Will the City of Brampton end up providing the difference makers in this years EFL Championship Playoffs for the final promotion spot to the English Premier League?

Brampton’s Cyle Larin, currently with Southampton FC, and Liam Millar, currently with Hull City AFC are just 1 playoff round away from facing one another in the ultimate EFL Championship playoff match to determine the third and final promotion spot into the top flight of English football, the Premier League.

Larin joined Southampton FC on loan back in the January transfer window after an unsuccessful loan spell at Feyenoord in the Netherlands Eredivise from Mallorca where he had struggled to find his form the previous season.

Dubbed “The Brampton Bagsman” by Saints supporters in Southampton Larin has hit the ground running and played a vital role in seeing Southampton FC through to the playoffs.

Should Southampton FC successfully topple Middlesborough in their two-legged playoff Larin and Co. will be off to Wembley Stadium for a shot at promotion.

Liam Millar at Hull City AFC

After a load spell with Preston North End, from Basel FC in the Swiss league, Millar was permanently transferred to Hull City AFC for the 2024/25 season where an anterior cruciate injury sidelined him for 11 months.

His return to play in October 2025 has seen him play an integral part in Hull City’s efforts to achieve promotion and should Hull defeat Millwall in their home-&-away playoff, he could be facing fellow Bramptonian and Canada international Cyle Larin at Wembley to determine who it is that advances to the Premier League for the 2026/27 season.

What are the chances Larin or Millar meet in the EFL Championship Final?

According to Matt Furniss of The Guardian Southampton FC have a 32.9% chance of attaining promotion and Hull City AFC have a chance of only 16.2%. With the two teams trending in opposite directions the Larin vs. Millar Brampton Showdown in the EFL Championship doesn’t seem likely, however, as we’ve all seen before with the Championship, you never can tell.

Will we see a Brampton native in the Premier League next year?

Southampton FC are currently favourites. In no small part, due to the exploits of Larin and his match winning goals. Furthermore, it is rumoured that his loan to Southampton FC is set to be made permanent should the Saints achieve promotion. So will there be a Bramptonian in the Premier League next year? Most likely.
