The fierce rivalry between these teams set the stage for an electrifying showdown in the 2024 summer outdoor soccer campaign. After a spellbinding 2023 season with a 14-3-1 record and their first-ever BAS Cup title, G-Torino FC have unexpectedly found themselves struggling at the start of 2024, languishing in the unfamiliar territory of the bottom half of the table. In stark contrast, Ebony SC have enjoyed a thrilling resurgence, capitalizing on their late-season momentum from the 2023 summer outdoor season that saw them advance to the BAS Cup semi-finals, only to be ousted by none other than G-Torino FC. The setting sun was shining brightly over the pitch as the two rivals met in the marquee match. With high temperatures and high stakes, the stage was set for an exciting evening of football. It was Ebony SC who came out of the gates hot, taking the game to their opponents from the opening whistle. Their attacking intent was rewarded in the 33rd minute when left winger Darren Chambers found himself unmarked and on the ball to slot home the opener and the only goal of the half. In second half, Ebony SC continued their unrelenting pace. G-Torino FC tried to rally but they couldn’t handle the relentless pressure from their opponents. Chambers doubled the lead in the 60th minute with a beautiful solo goal, his second of the contest. At 2-0 up, Ebony SC refused to take their foot off the gas. They continued to pin G-Torino back in their own half, creating chance after chance. Their dominance paid off again; as in the 80th minute there was a foul in G-Torino FC’s box leading to a penalty. The kick was left to the presumed Player of the Match, with Chambers stepping up, firing into the back of the net to complete the hat trick. Only 5 minutes later Ebony SC’s Captain, Shawn Dixon capitalized on the final opportunity of the match, scoring the fourth and final goal of the game. Despite the defending Cup Champ’s best efforts, they had no answer for Ebony’s ruthless attack led by the outstanding Chambers. When the final whistle blew, the 4-0 scoreline in our Match of The Week: G-Torino FC vs. Ebony SC, was a more than fair reflection of Ebony SC’s superiority on a glorious summer evening.
