VSFC: The Beat Goes On

Those looking for a new BAS Cup Champion to wear the crown are going to have to wait at least another 365 days as VSFC captured their 5th consecutive title today.

In a captivating match that featured extra time and a penalty shootout, VSFC defeated their divisional rivals Heepy FC to carry on what is now becoming a tradition lasting over 2000 days.

The first 35 minutes went to script for the defending Champions. Goals from Alex Dukovski and Nicholas Chiarot put VSFC comfortably ahead while they enjoyed the run of play. Heepy FC, however, were undaunted and capitalized on a free kick just before the interval with a goal from Captain Mark Sannzzaros.

A revitalized Heepy FC enjoyed the majority of the possession in the second half and their efforts were rewarded in the 71st minute when Manuel Ramos played a beautiful ball through the VSFC midfield allowing Sannzzaros to tie the match with his second goal. Both teams had their chances in the last 20 minutes, but neither could find the winner.

Extra time solved nothing; if VSFC were going to prevail they would need to do it through PK’s for the first time in their unprecedented run. Equal to task, the Champs missed only once while keeper Gurvir Bajwa twice turned away strikes from Heepy FC clinching the victory and earning himself Man-of-the-Match honours.

So the beat goes on…and on for VSFC, a run that no one could have expected or predicted, no one other than those on VSFC who have hoisted the Cup every year since 2016.
