As we reflect on 2021’s Canadian Premier League season, it has been a year of growth and development for the league. Despite the challenges faced, CPL is excited to announce the expansion of it’s community in the coming years. In terms of the 2021 Year in Review, CPL is proud to share that at least two new teams are expected to join the league. This growth is a testament to the strength and resilience of Canada’s soccer community. The first of these new teams is set to be established in Vancouver’s Lower Mainland, with plans already underway. This expansion will bring the league closer to even more passionate soccer fans and players, allowing everyone to foster a broader sense of community and camaraderie. The second team, on the other hand, is proposed for Saskatoon. However, due to some disputes amongst community groups regarding the proposed stadium location, an exact timeline for this expansion is yet to be determined. We understand that these disputes can be challenging, but the CPL remains optimistic about the potential for growth in Saskatoon. The addition of these new teams is a significant milestone in the Canadian Premier League’s history. It not only reflects the increasing popularity of soccer but also the commitment to expanding and strengthening our community. As we look forward to the future, we are excited about the opportunities that await the CPL in 2022 and beyond. Canadian Premier League and Canada Soccer Business will surely continue to work diligently to resolve any disputes and ensure a smooth expansion process, always keeping the best interests of Canada’s soccer community at heart.
