Canadian Women Qualify for World Cup

It wasn’t as dominant as the opening victory against Trinidad and Tobago, but in the end, the win was all that mattered as the Canadian Women’s National Team qualified for next year’s World Cup with a 1-0 win over Panama.

Canada controlled the play with 69% of the possession and Julia Grosso’s goal in the 64th proved to be the winner and all the women needed to qualify.

While booked for the World Cup next year in Australia/New Zealand, CANWNT still have goals to accomplish. Winning the current CONCACAF tournament in Mexico assure them of an Olympic berth, as well as a ticket to the inaugural CONCACAF W Gold Cup, to be held in 2024.

The Canadian women have played in all, but one of the Women’s World Cup tournaments to date and will look to 2023 to better their best overall performance – a 4th place finish in 2003.

This will be the first time ever that both our men’s and women’s team have qualified within the same year.
