From Brampton Soccer to Belgium: Kwasi Poku

How does a young man make the journey from Brampton soccer to Belgium? Kwasi Poku has done it in spectacular fashion as his transfer from CPL’s Forge FC to Belgium’s RWD Molenbeek smashes the previous CPL transfer record. All it took was goals, goals, and more goals.

A heartfealt thanks from Forge FC to Kwasi Poku as he makes his move to Belgian side RWD Molenbeek.

Starting his career with Forge when he signed his first professional contract with the Hamilton, Ont. side in January 2022, at the age of 18, Kwasi was just a defensive back-up. BramptonSoccer.com highlighted Poku’s breakthrough and early successes during his 3 season stint (including 2 Championships) with Forge FC. But winning 2 titles with Forge wasn’t ambitious enough for Kwasi – so he changed his position.

This season, as BAS pointed out earlier this summer, this Brampton soccer alumn made a dynamic and drastic shift from defense to ’emergency striker’ as his side dealt with an array of injuries to their attacking line. But it worked. Like, it REALLY worked.

I worked so well that Poku never moved back to defense, instead, he just kept scoring. 10 goals, 2 of them in the Canadian Championship against Major League Soccer sides CF Montréal and Toronto FC, respectively, and two assists to boot for a total of 12 goal involvements. In just under 20 games as a striker that is an impressive tally for someone so young.

Poku will now be plying his trade for RWD Molenbeek in the Belgian 2nd division and we can’t wait to see where else this young man’s talent will take him… …from Brampton Soccer to Belgium… …and we’re sure there’s more to follow.
